Want to learn more about how our state government works?

When the time comes to learn lessons in political science, Christian students all across the nation are turning to a TeenPact state capitol experience instead of just a textbook. TeenPact teaches the foundations of government with the legislative branch, beginning with a week-long session at the student's own capitol.

Spiritually, TeenPact teaches Biblical principles of government and family, going hand-in-hand with the values of families who participate. It is very important that our young people see that spiritual revival is the answer to America's problems - not politics. We teach students that every Christian must pray and vote according to Biblical principles.

Overall, studies in government are beneficial in any vocation. Our hands-on civics courses offer an incredible platform for rhetoric, interpersonal communication, and current events. There is a great need for godly, powerful communication within any arena and our goal is to train up a generation of young people to fill that need.

We are in full swing here at TeenPact and promotions are underway for
our 2012 New Hampshire class! Here are the dates:

The Purpose of SCHEA is to provide support, inspiration and information to Christian homeschool families in the Seacoast region of New Hampshire. The organization and all of the activities and publications of it will be consistently and forthrightly Christian to the honor and glory of the Lord God.

Activities which SHEA may organize to provide support and inspiration includes but is not limited to : prayer, regular meetings, newsletters, seminars, conferences, workshops, outing and field trips. SCHEA also exists to provide information about local, state and national activities, events and legislation which may be of interest to home educators or which may effect home education.

You can download a copy of our SCHEA membership form by clicking here. Members receive our monthly newsletter, are automatically added to our Yahoo! group for homeschool news, and receive priority registration for SCHEA-sponsored events. Voting members are required to sign our statement of faith upon joining and membership renewal.

If you prefer to not be a member at this time, we host a homeschool Yahoo! group for non-members called Friends of SCHEA. Please follow the link to the group home page and you can join from there. Memberships must be approved by the moderator and the list is heavily moderated to maintain privacy.

If you are a member of SCHEA, you do not need to be added to the Friends of SCHEA group.

We, the SCHEA curriculum sale organizers,are doing this to benefit the local homeschool community.
It is an opportunity for local homeschoolers to exercise good stewardship as they purchase gently used curriculum at reasonable prices. We strongly discourage purchasing with the sole intent to resell. We wish to remind buyers and sellers to be mindful of copyright laws. We wish to encourage buyers and sellers to exercise the principle in Philippians 2: 4 – "Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others."

Homeschool Legislation Primer 2011

SCHEA has not come out in support of any one of the bills. We are providing this information to our members and fellow homeschoolers as a service so they can educate themselves on the issues and specifics of the bills. Please prayerfully consider how God is leading you to advocate in this legislative session.

It is our understanding that during the next few weeks, a subcommittee of House Education Committee (HEC) members will be meeting four times to merge the three bills into one bill, which will be recommended as Ought To Pass (OTP) by the HEC to the full House of Representatives. If it passes the House, it will move on to the Senate where it will be referred to the Senate Education Committee for hearings before being brought back to the floor for a vote. (The link above takes you the the docket for HB301 for dates and times of subcommittee meetings.)

The Homeschool Theatre Guild serves up a taste of midsummer madness with Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream next Thursday and Friday, April 29th and 30th, at the Farmington Opera House at 7 PM. 25 local homeschoolers make up the cast and crew in this production packed with fairies, lovers and bumbling actors. PCA offers Kaleidscope Classes to Homeschoolers

Portsmouth Christian Academy (PCA) has a highly regarded after school program which offers a wide variety of enrichment workshops that broaden students' horizons in academics, athletics, and the arts. The Kaleidoscope program’s objective is to augment students’ academic experience with talented, trained teachers in both academic offerings and extra-curricular activities. Students are given the opportunity to learn and experience new things in a fun and exciting environment!

PCA would like to invite all homeschooled students to participate along with us in some of these unique opportunities. The workshops usually meet once a week. Parents can register students for workshops on the PCA website on a quarterly basis.

Loon Homeschool Sports: Already set up for lessons in 2011! It was a great ski season for all involved. Price includes 6 all day lift tickets and 5 lessons. Open to all skill levels, ages 6 and up (snowboarding as well). Discounted rentals are available. In 2011, skiing will be on Thursdays.

Portfolio Preparation

Dear Coalition Member,

We are sending this email to remind you that a portfolio evaluation is one of the assessment methods homeschoolers may use to demonstrate a homeschooled student's educational progress. Details about homeschooling evaluation options are available from our website (http://nhhomeschooling.org/law).

Regardless of the evaluation method a homeschooler uses, New Hampshire law requires every homeschooler to maintain a student portfolio for two years after the date instruction ends.

Here is a list of items to consider including in a homeschooling student portfolio:

Reading list—(this item is required by law);
Workbook pages—include the child’s name and the date of the work. It isn’t necessary to include every workbook page. Two or three pages from each core subject, each month is sufficient;
Writing samples—signed and dated by the student;
Photographs of field trips;
Photographs of large or bulky projects;
Ticket stubs or programs;
List of outside courses or extra classes;
Certificates, awards, or special achievements.

Home Education Advisory Council Meetings

The Home Education Advisory Council meets on the second Tuesday of the month from September through June. HEAC meetings begin at 3:30 p.m. at the New Hampshire Department of Education, Londergan Hall (Room 12), 101 Pleasant Street, Concord.

These meetings are a forum for homeschoolers, New Hampshire Department of Education officials, and representatives from school boards as well as from public and private school administrations to meet and discuss New Hampshire homeschooling matters. HEAC meetings are open to the public. It's important to point out that even though HEAC meetings are open to the public, only HEAC members may participate in discussion at the meetings. On rare occasions a guest may be requested to take the floor for a brief comment on a specific matter. Members of the public are welcome to attend, listen, and take notes. When homeschoolers attend HEAC meetings, we should arrive on time and conduct ourselves in a way that allows Council members to conduct HEAC business. Homeschoolers may bring matters before the Council by contacting any homeschooling Council member.

New Hampshire: Act Now to Prevent Increase in Homeschool Regulation

Dear New Hampshire Members and Friends:

As you know, S.B. 337 was passed last year to modify New Hampshire's
homeschool law. The law also established a commission to examine New
Hampshire's homeschool law and make recommendations. It has been
reported that the commission met five times and has now submitted its
required report to the state legislature. In its report, the
commission reportedly makes no recommendation for additional
legislation.

Nevertheless, Representative Judith Day (D) of Rockingham has
submitted two legislative service requests ("LSRs") indicating her
intent to file legislation that would make changes to RSA 193-A, New
Hampshire's homeschool law. These LSRs are 2009-H-0491-R and 0495-R.
The topics are respectively "relative to the evaluation procedures for
home schooled students" and "relative to annual goals and curriculum
in a home education program." To see the LSRs you can got to:

HSLDA is working with New Hampshire homeschool leaders to defend
against any renewed attacks on homeschooling freedoms. And while we
do not have the proposed language of this legislation, there is little
doubt that these proposed laws will seek to increase regulation over
New Hampshire homeschools.

ACTION REQUESTED

Please contact the prime sponsor of this proposed legislation,
Representative Judith Day, and give her the following message in your
own words:

"It is my understanding that the S.B. 337 commission did not recommend
any legislation. What is the problem your proposed legislation is
intended to solve? How will it solve the problem? As a homeschooling
parent I believe that the current law is working fine. Please do not
introduce any homeschool legislation."

you to receive a written response which can then be forwarded to
others for further use. Please forward any interesting response to

disagree without being disagreeable.

Teenpact 2009 in New Hampshire

Come to TeenPact and get a hands-on experience in government.Students get to see their state senate and state house in session.They get to learn about how a bill becomes a law and even debate theirown bills in mock legislature. Students have the opportunity to hearfrom legislators, interview lobbyists, and analyze currentlegislation. Students at TeenPact are also encouraged in their walkwith the Lord. Students learn how they can influence the culture forJesus Christ in whatever area God calls them to.

Edra Toth's Academy of Dance and Music is offering homeschool Ballet on Fridays at 11:00-12:00. Beginning August 29, 2011 at Rasamaya Yoga Studio 1 Washington Street, Dover, NH

The Edra Toth's Academy of Dance & Music is the training school for Northeastern Ballet Theatre which produces two full-length ballets each year. The Academy provides dance classes for both the serious and recreational student. Ballet being the foundation of all movement, the focus and emphasis of the Academy is ballet but classes are offered in other types of dance as well. The school is not recital-driven so class time is spent teaching students how to dance. It is the philosophy of Edra Toth, the school's founder and director and former prima ballerina for Boston Ballet, that ballet is a performing art, so the school is not a "Competion School."

Auditions for Northeastern Ballet Theatre's production of "The Nutcracker" will be held on September 18, 2011 at Rasamaya Yoga Studio, Dover.

French and Spanish Tutoring

I am a NH state certified teacher in French and Spanish. I have just retired from the public school system after 20 years of teaching, and am very interested in tutoring for the home school/private school communities. I have tutored for the last 4 years on a limited basis, and would like to expand that program. I can suit the program to the student/students depending on the size of the group. I have only tutored individuals, but would also consider a small group of students at the same level of the language. The logistics of the program- time, place, fees, etc, will be arranged on an individual/small group basis. My fee is on a sliding scale based on amount of travel, length of the session, and the size of the group.

End of Year Reporting

Your child's annual evaluation is due to your participating agency by July 1st. According to New Hampshire law, a parent must provide an annual evaluation documenting "educational progress at a level commensurate with the child's age and ability." Parents have the following four evaluation options:

1. Certified or current nonpublic schoolteacher portfolio review and
written evaluation
2. Any national student achievement test, administered by a person who
meets the qualifications established by the publisher or provider of
the test (composite score at the 40th percentile or above indicates reasonable academic proficiency);
3. A state student assessment test used by a resident district (composite results at the 40th percentile or above indicate reasonable academic proficiency); or
4. Any other valid measurement tool mutually agreed upon by the parent and participating agency.

If a home education evaluation is not submitted by July 1, the participating agency is required to notify the parent that unless the evaluation is submitted by July 15, the home education program will be placed on probation.

Christian Night Roller Skating in Newington

The rink in Newington (buy the mall & Walmart) has a Christian night every second Saturday from 5 pm to 7 pm. At 6 pm the stop the music and have a devotional and do some fun games. They close the months of June, July, August. Fees are $4.50 with an extra $3.00 for inline skates. You can bring your own inlines, of course.

Give 2 cents for each light bulb in your house.

Day 3...Would you rather live in the dim light of candles?
Give 2 cents for each candle in your house.

Day 4...Most of the world's population lives beyond the reach of medical
care...Give 10 cents for each box of Band-Aids in your house...An extra dime if they are not flesh colored.

Day 5...Are you thankful you have a roof and doors to keep out the wind and rain?
Give 10 cents for each exterior door your house has.

Day 6...Are you thankful for all your clothes?
Give a nickel for each closet in your house.

Day 10...Do you walk to town to get a bucket of water for washing,
drinking, bathing or cooking? Or
are you blessed with faucets that bring precious water to you?
Give 10 cents for each faucet you have and don't forget the outside ones.

Day 11...Still thinking of water, how did you get clean today?
Give 10 cents if you took a bath, 25 cents for a shower.

Day 12...Most of the people in this world are starving while Americans'
biggest concern is being overweight. Put in a penny for each pound your mother and father think they are overweight.

Day 13...What a blessing to be able to see and have eye doctors to help
us.Give 10 cents for each pair of glasses your family members wear...And a quarter for each pair of sunglasses

Day 14...Many people in the world who are blind do not have eye doctors to help them. Give a quarter or each person in your house that wears contact lenses.

Day 15...Jesus loves the little children.
Give thanks and a dollar for every child in your family and do a secret
good deed for them today.

Day 16...How would you like to live in your car as some families do?
Give a dime for every vehicle in your family.

Day 17...What if you lived on the streets like so many in south America
do? Give thanks for your home and give 5 cents for every pillow in your
home...Don't forget the decorative ones, also.

Day 18...Epidemics often follow natural disasters.
Give thanks if no one in your house has been too sick this month to go to
work or school and donate 50 cents.

Day 19...The comfort of a clean bed is an undreamed of luxury for millions of the world's poor people. Give 5 cents for each bed in your house.

Day 20...Did a cozy blanket cover you last night?
Give a penny for every blanket in your house.

Day 21...Was it cold enough to wear a coat today? Were you thankful for
your coat? Give a penny for every coat, jacket or raincoat in your house.

Day 22...In some countries of the world, most people cant read. Are you
thankful you can read? Put in a penny for every book in your home....(Yes, for most of us this is an expensive one)

Day 23...By now you have received many Christmas cards from many loving friends and family members.
Give a penny for each card and be thankful for God's love.

Day 24...Many children in the world do not have a school to go to and
barely learn to read or write. Give a penny for every pencil in your house.

Day 25...Many people in the world cook over an open fire. Aren't you glad your parents did not send you out to chop wood this morning?
Give 5 cents for every burner on your stove and a nickel for every oven.

Day 26...Aren't you glad that you have people that love and think about
you? Put in 10 cents for each gift under the tree that is for you.

Day 27...Jesus was born and dies for you!!!!! Put in a dollar for every person that has been baptized and believes in Christ!!!!!

Day 28...Unfortunately this is the time of year in which many people
suffer loss in house fires.Give 10 cents for every phone in your house in which you can dial 911 in case of emergency.

Day 29...Many people in the world suffer excruciating pain from the lack
of dental care. Have you ever been grateful for toothbrushes?
Give 5 cents for every toothbrush in your house.

Day 30...Do you own a pet?
Give a quarter for each pet and say a prayer for all the children in the
world who can't afford to feed themselves, let alone a pet.

Day 31...Many children in the world barely get one meal a day. How many
did you have? Give thanks and 5 cents for each meal and 10 cents for each snack today.

Day 32...Would you like to have to walk to school, to church or the store?
Most people in the world walk every where they go...
Give 10 cents for each bike, pair of skates, skateboard or anything else
that has wheels.

Day 33..."Give us this day our daily bread".
Thank God for feeding you today and give one penny for every slice of
bread in your house.

Day 34...Count all the cans in your cupboard or pantry.
Give a penny for each one of them as you thank God for the technology to can foods.

Day 35...Count all the packages of frozen foods and meat in your freezer,
Thank God for refrigeration and give a penny for each you counted.

Day 36...Make a list of all the fruits and vegetables God created that you
can name, Put in a penny for each one on the list.

Day 37...Many people in the world have never touched a computer.
If there is one in your home, put in 50 cents, an extra 50 cents for ascanner, 50 cents for the printer and if you spend more than an a hour each day on line...Give an extra dollar!!

Our Statement of Faith

We affirm:

1. The Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative, inerrant Word of God (ii Timothy 3:15-16; ii Peter 1:20)

2. There is one God, eternally existent in three persons - Father, Son and Holy Spirit (Genesis 1:1; Matthew 28:19; John 10:30)

3. The deity of Christ (John 10:33); His virgin birth (Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:23; Luke 1:35), His sinless life (Hebrews 4:15; 7:26); His miracles (John 2:11); His vicarious and atoning death (1 Corinthians 15:3; Ephesians 1:7; Hebrews 2:9); His resurrection (John 11:5; I Corinthians 15:4): His ascension (Luke 24:6); His personal return in power and glory (Acts 1:11; Revelation 19:11)

4. The absolute necessity of regeneration by the Holy Spirit for salvation because of the exceeding sinfulness of human nature; and that men are justified on the single ground of faith in the shed blood of Christ, and that only God's grace and through faith alone are we saved (John 3:16-19; John 5:24; Romans 3:23, Romand 5:8-9; Ephesians 2:8-10; Titus 3:5)

5. The resurrection of both the saved and the lost -- they that are saved unto the resurrection of life, and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation (John 5:28-29)

6. The spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 12:12-13; Galatians 3:26-28)

7. The present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life (Romans 8:13-14; 1 Corinthians 3:16, 6:19-20; Ephesians 4:30, 5:18)

8. That children are a gift of the Lord and are entrusted to parents, who are accountable to God to provide them with godly training and discipline (Deuteronomy 6:1-9; Psalm 127:3, Ephesians 6:4).

Regional Christian Portfolio Evaluators

The following are state certified teachers capable of completing a portfolio review of your homeschool child's work. Portfolio review is one method of assessing progress in the state of NH.

Tara Hatfield is a homeschooling mom certified in k-12 by the state of NH. You can reach her by email or phone (603) 749-4231. She suggests setting aside 1 hour for your child's portfolio review, especially if you have more than 1 child. Tara charges $40 for first child/ $25 for sibling.

Standardized Testing Resources

Seton Testing Service: provides the CAT-E (for contents of test, click here) $25. Several of our families have used this company and were pleased with this service.

Christian Liberty Press: testing service for CAT (1970 edition) $22. Several of our families have used this company and were pleased with this service.

Family Learning: provides the full CAT-5 (1992) $35. Several of our families have used this company and were pleased with this service.

BJU: provides both the Stanford & ITBS (Iowa Test of Basic Skills) -- there are additional testing requirements (such as not testing your own child by him/herself) $40

Bayside School Services: The test price for the 2007-08 school year is $60 per CAT/5, which includes Priority Mail delivery to you. The test price does not include the required Priority Mail return postage. Please add $10 per order (not per test) for rush (less than 3 week lead time) orders. One family who has used this service in the past said you need to order early and plan ahead as it can take 6-8 weeks to get results back.
